It All Started with a Raggedy Andy Birthday Cake....

The Creations for the Moment story began when my kids were little.  I was tired of buying dry cakes for their birthdays and wanted to try making them myself.

So, I enrolled in a cake decorating class through WCTC at New Berlin West High School.  Classes were held on Wednesday evenings and I attended them for two years. I was in class with a group of women who were loads of fun.

My first attempt was for my son’s first birthday.  His name is Andy so I made him a Raggedy Andy cake.  It was challenging but a lot of fun.  Also, what a mess!!

Before long I made a cake for a neighbor and then for a friend of theirs.  So it went.  I was making all sorts of cakes for different occasions.  My first wedding cake was for my cousin’s co-worker.  That cake took me an entire week to make. Strawberry Shortcake Birthday Cake

Once the decision was made for me to become “professional”, my husband, Scott, and I added a commercial kitchen in the lower level of our home.  That’s where we’ve worked on cakes ever since.  It’s not a fancy kitchen but certainly functional.

Scott actually makes it possible for me to continue.  He does a lot of the finish icing and the final presentation once we arrive at the banquet facility.  He’s also my muscle.  Some of these cakes are really heavy.

Between the two of us, we have six children and twelve grandchildren.  There are quite a few birthday cakes that go out of our kitchen just for family.

It’s a great “job” to have.  After all, when you order a cake, it’s for a happy occasion.
